I don’t mean for this to turn into a philosophical discussion, because I know that there are no perfect people or anything. I’m just musing about life and its ups and downs, and I suppose that the only thing that keeps me going is the feeling that there is always something better around the corner. If someone asked me to describe perfection, here is what I would say: Perfection is like playing a game of chess with yourself—you build up an elaborate structure and then destroy it because it doesn’t match your idea of perfection. This cycle continues until you’ve finally found something you can put your heart and soul into. When you create that, you realize that it’s not perfect either. But the beauty of this game is that, if you keep playing, you can find the perfect balance between destruction and creation. You can make something perfect by building around it; or destroy something by letting go. The world is an endless cycle of conquest and deconstruction; continuing life without ever giving in to perfection would be like never living at all, which seems worse in some ways because in death there is no way to win. The things in our lives may be imperfect in some way—we may lose something dear to us every day, or experience an emotional upheaval with no end in sight—but I think that ultimately we would rather live than die. cfa1e77820
